Yep, we bed share. Most people will tell you it’s terrible and a bad habit. Well, we never have had issues. Daxton slept with us for his first year of life, and so will Xavier.
Studies show that bed-sharing or at least room sharing for the first year reduces SIDS, anxiety, sleep regressions, abs helps breastfeeding.
We successfully breastfed for 14 months with Daxton. Still going strong at 5 months with Xavier. It’s just easier to roll over and feed or dream feed while sharing the same bed. I sleep atleast 8 hours a night since Xavier was born. It’s a beautiful thing to be a week rested mom.
There are rules. It’s only safe with breastfed babies as formula puts them into a deeper sleep. The mom must not take medicine or alcohol that impairs the brain. You need tight sheets and no loose blankets or a lot of pillows. I also always have the baby on my side away from dad. It’s my logic that our bodies are made to sleep with our babies but men don’t go through pregnancy to get the preparation.
We do and will do a gentle bed training at 1 year. I want them to have their own space to sleep and grow. Although, our bed is always open for the sick nights or just because. It’s a safe place for my children to always feel comfort.
